🌙Where to Watch Sailor Moon Eternal Online
There's an official Sailor Moon Eternal streaming option for pretty much everyone
Hello, Moonies!
This week is arguably going to be the biggest Sailor Moon week of the year with the international debut of the Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon Eternal movies so I thought I’d dedicate this newsletter to answering all of the questions most fans will have about each anime film.
Let’s get started.
What’s the Sailor Moon Eternal Release Date?
The first and second Sailor Moon Eternal films debuted in Japan in January and February of this year. The international Sailor Moon Eternal release date for both is on the third of June 2021.
Basically, both Sailor Moon Eternal films will be available to watch at the same time later this week. They’re expected to go live at around 5pm here in Australia (a big win for us Sailor Moon Eternal Australia viewers). This is around 3am for those in New York in the United States and is the same time that most new shows or films go live on Netflix globally.
Where Can I Watch Sailor Moon Eternal?
The Sailor Moon Eternal streaming rights are currently exclusive to Netflix. This means that both full movies will only be viewable via the Netflix website or one of its many apps on smartphones, smart TVs, gaming consoles, etc.
It looks like Sailor Moon Eternal Part 1 and Part 2 are going to be available in pretty much every region outside of Japan. To see if Sailor Moon Eternal is available in your region, simply open the Netflix website or app and search for “Sailor Moon Eternal.”
After finding it, you may also be able to add it to your list or set a reminder depending on which platform you’re on.
Sailor Moon Eternal will eventually come to Netflix Japan as well though this likely won’t happen until the official Blu-ray and DVD release in late-June. For now, Japan-based fans can use a VPN to watch Sailor Moon Eternal on Netflix.

Is There a Sailor Moon Eternal Full Movie Option?
Even though it’s officially called Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon Eternal: The Movie, the film actually comes in two separate parts. Sailor Moon Eternal was released this way in Japan and likely will be for all future theatrical and home releases.
Think of it as being like Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows or The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn. Two separate parts that form a whole when watched back-to-back but can also be enjoyed individually.
Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon Eternal: The Movie Part 1 and Part 2 are both included within the same page listing on Netflix as if they’re a series so don’t worry if you can only find one.
Is Sailor Moon Eternal Dubbed or Subbed?
You’ll be able to watch Sailor Moon Eternal online in its original Japanese audio and also in a large number of alternate language dubs such as English, French, German, and Spanish. Subtitles in various languages will also be available.
An official list of languages hasn’t been announced as of yet, but there is confirmation of several in the initial Netflix teaser which cycles through quite a few.
If you hear a language in the above teaser, you’ll be able to watch Sailor Moon Eternal: The Movie in it.
Is Sailor Moon Eternal a Part of Sailor Moon Crystal?
Yes. Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon Eternal: The Movie is essentially Sailor Moon Crystal Season 4.
The first Eternal movie picks up right where Sailor Moon Crystal Season 3 left off and is an adaption of the Dream or Dead Moon Circus arc from the manga.
Sailor Moon Eternal is not a continuation of the 90s Sailor Moon anime. It’s a continuation of the recent Sailor Moon Crystal reboot.
If you’ve recognised some elements from the various teasers and trailers, it’s because this arc in the manga was also the inspiration of the fourth season of the 90s anime, SuperS, which used the same villains and the focus on Pegasus. While the 90s anime differed quite a bit from the manga source material though, Sailor Moon Eternal, much like Crystal, doesn’t change much at all. Those who have never read the Sailor Moon manga are in for quite a few surprises while long-time manga fans will finally be rewarded with the long overdue animated debut of several characters and moments.
Is the Sailor Moon Eternal Edition Manga Connected to the Movie?
Yes. No. Not really. Kind of.
The Eternal Edition is simply the name for the latest release of the Sailor Moon manga series to help differentiate it from previous releases. It has no direct connection to the two Eternal movies beyond the use of the word, Eternal.
The Eternal Edition does contain all of the Sailor Moon manga story arcs, including the Dream arc which the Eternal movies are based on, so there’s that. But this arc was also included in all previous releases as well.
I wrote more about the recent and upcoming Sailor Moon manga releases in my previous email which you can read here. Definitely give it a quick read if you’re finding all of this manga talk overwhelming.
How to Watch Sailor Moon Eternal Online for Free
Cut it out. 😘 Sailor Moon has never been easier or cheaper to watch online and it’s important to watch Sailor Moon Eternal via its official distribution method (aka Netflix) so that the companies involved will produce more Sailor Moon movies and anime series in the future.
Netflix is available on smartphones, tablets, computers, smart TVs, streaming sticks, many modern DVD and Blu-ray players, and PlayStation and Xbox video game consoles.
If you’re on a budget, you can just sign up for one month and then cancel your Netflix membership once you’ve watched Sailor Moon Eternal: The Movie.
You can share your Netflix account. Can’t afford the single month? Ask a friend or family member if you can share their account for free. They can even set you up with your own profile. I’ve seen a few online Moonies doing this already which is fantastic.🤝
Slow internet? The Netflix computer, tablet, and smartphone apps let you download content for viewing offline. You don’t need to stream while worrying about buffering or low image quality. Pre-download in high quality to watch later.
Want more Sailor Moon? Let’s support it as much as we can and send a message that this is a franchise that deserves to get as much attention as its rivals like Dragon Ball and Naruto. Piracy was fun in the Kaguya Island musicals but it won’t get us that big budget Stars movie that we deserve. (Fist bump if you got that reference)
That’s about it for now! Only a few days left until Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon Eternal: The Movie drops worldwide!
